As the waiting comes to an end…GMP as PMB
TODAY, RIPPLES concludes the
series of chats most die-hard Buharists are now into, on the long wait
on General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB), as President to do the needful. A
wait that appears to be coming to an end. At last.
It could be so boring to keep on talking of GMB, alone on these pages. But for now, I can’t seem to run away from so talking about him. He is after all the topmost priority in our daily lives as Nigerians. And as believers and supporters of some 15 years. On these pages we’d RIPPLED along, wondering why GMB as PMB hasn’t tackled many of the essentials that got him our support all of these years. We also had been on about the atrocious pillage by the PDP that had the audacity to use the excuse of arms for political ends. Thankfully, we’re so glad, all the Arms monies haven’t bought PDP a return ticket to the Loot to reloot and pillage as usual. Though looting appears the hallmark of the PDP government, it is not as if there aren’t more than a few PDP types even under GMB as PMB, at various levels. Thank God, our GMB now appears back in full form. He has finally sacked two of his troubles, the grasscutter SGF and NIA DG. That is why our earlier chat on RIPPLES titled “As the waiting continues..” could well be rested now. Since then he has also met his campaigners and praised them for all they did to get him to the Presidency. He’s had meetings with various groups in APC, then an APC caucus meeting. He spoke well at the APC NEC, where he got a vote of confidence for what he has done thus far. Forget they have been left high and dry thus far. After his excuses to the NEC for not rewarding party loyalists and in fact his own loyalists, GMB announced he would expand his cabinet for more deserving persons. With the new improved and healthy GMB, he is generally expected to now remove most ministers, if not all of them. It is expected he’d anytime now name new ministers and members of boards of agencies. The little hitch though is, he told us, it will be governors and the state party, APC (chapters) he’ll consult in the selection process. This denies the 13 million votes GMB came into the merger with. No one should forget that it was a mere three million votes that were added to the bank of votes GMB and all of us, his people, came in to theAPC merger with. The Presidential elections tally of GMB in APC was a little more than 15 million. In Kano, while we got 1.7 million votes in the 2011 polls, we had barely 200,000 and a bit added on in 2015. Despite that APC was then led by the whole government of Rabiu Kwankwaso, now senator by the Grace of God and GMB’s “SAK!”. SAK is the local Kano GMB slogan, since ANPP, urging voters to vote all who are in the GMB party, no matter what they may otherwise represent. SAK is now blamed for all the troubles caused by the many mismatched politicians in the APC. That causes us, GMB supporters sleepless nights as we look to 2019. Yet it is now said these SAK Governors and the party are to nominate all appointees, and the governors control the party. For us in Kano there is more, as it is said Mr. President is billed to visit, November 27th, according to the State Government. This will be his first, as our President. Note that Kano is his political home base. Surprisingly, he is to commission hospitals built by PDP’s Shekarau, GMB basher-in-chief, the same one he made governor in 2003 when I was Kano ANPP Chairman. If GMB comes in now, he would be telling his friends, who’d always stood by him through thick and thin, that his “personal persons” are not as important as we all thought they were. He wasn’t in Kano when his closest pals, Walin Ringim, CP Ibrahim BabanKowa, and Northern and Kano Titan, Wazirin Dutse, AVM Mouktar Mohammad died. He wasn’t here either when Danmasanin Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule died. And Danmasani was Chairman of influential Northern Elders Forum (NEF) that led the charge for GMB in 2015, or when Abubakar Rimi Market, Sabon-Gari got burnt. My reading of the tea leaves though suggests he is not very likely to come in to Kano now. Not this Monday. For, he knows in his heart of hearts, he owes an unpaid debt to his own people first! To ensure he’s resolved the crises of confidence of his core supporters left out in the cold since 2015. That should hopefully clear and ease the route to a smooth ride to a GMB second term in 2019. Our GMB deserves a second term. We deserve GMB for a second term. Especially as it appears there is no credible voteable alternative, yet. Even if a lot more work needs be done than the 2015 election year.
